America, we have a problem...

Plainly stated: The corporate elite run our country and do so according to THEIR PRIORITIES not ours, regardless of which political party is in power. what this means is that We ("the People"):

  • are not in control of our democracy even though we decide who gets elected at every level of government in every election.
  • don't know who our true allies are or should be nor do we understand who our real adversaries are or should be
  • don't have a strategy to fix these problems.

It is out of this continued confusion and frustration that classwarfare101.com has come into existence.

We at ClassWarfare101.com are dedicated to teaching, training, and building a movement to help working and middle class Americans fight back against those waging class war against them and us.

The goal is to take back American democracy from corporate elites and return it to We ("the People"). This would bring improvements in quality of life—better education, infrastructure, and opportunities—and give us the best chance to address climate change. It would create a fairer society that benefits everyone, even if not financially for the wealthy.

Is there really a class war in America?

Yes, Warren Buffett told us so way back in 2006, and he told us that his class, the wealthy class, was winning. Warren saw that his modestly compensated office staff were paying more in taxes (as a percentage of their income) than he was. Over time, this disparity has led to runaway wealth gains for the top earners relative to everyone else.

It's a class war because younger generations are struggling to do what their parents did, things like buying a first home and supporting their own families, and the poor are stuck in poverty. The issue isn't a lack of wealth in our society—there's never been more of that—but it's the uneven distribution of that wealth, which the most powerful among us control and distribute to themselves in increasing measure.

So, What is the state of this class war?

The Short Answer: The wealthy are winning decisively (for now).

See the longer answer here.

How did we get here?

Big money began influencing the federal government in the mid-70s, gaining major power with Ronald Reagan's election. For over 40 years, they've shaped policies favoring big business and wealthy individuals through tax cuts, deregulation, and behind-the-scenes lobbying, leaving We ("the People") bystanders in our own democracy.

Is one of our political parties to blame for the class war?

NO, BUT if you replace "to blame" with "more to blame" then, YES: GOP leadership and their policies are more to blame AND IT'S NOT REALLY CLOSE. The lion's share of the damage done through increasing income inequality between the wealthy and every one else has has come at the hands of Republican leadership.

Really? So this is just a partisan website

No, that would be counter-productive because in order to succeed, we need Americans across the political spectrum to rally to the cause. Our allegiance is to whichever party supports poor, working, and middle-class Americans. Today, that’s the Democrats, though the wealthy have influenced both parties.

This site is about practical solutions to wealth inequality. While a third party isn’t realistic, the Democrats, flawed as they are, include voices addressing class issues. the GOP does not. The GOP’s long-standing support for policies benefiting the wealthy makes it unlikely they’ll provide the solutions we need.
